Health Links

Getting healthy takes dedication. There are things that we don’t provide at Hanson Wellness Studio that are important to attaining and maintaining a healthy life style. On that note, here are a few links to some like-minded wellness professionals and business owners. Each of these links is to someone I personally know, like, and trust to help my patients find True Health.

Medical Doctors

Dr. John Young, M.D.

If you don’t have a medical doctor, this guy is great. He isn’t into just giving you a medication, he truly wants to find the cause of illness and fix it at the source. He knows a great deal about nutrition and he incorporates it into his practice with a great deal of success.

Dr. Carlos Garcia, M.D.

Another good guy who is into nutrition, chelation, and vitamin therapy. He is just down the street from my office, and has a great practice called Utopia. Check out his website at:

Aida I. Cuascut-Reyes, M.D.

A graduate of the Boston University School of Medicine, Dr. Reyes believes in treating the person as a whole and uses a health building approach to medicine. Dr. Reyes has successfully practiced medicine in the Brandon and Tampa areas for over 20 years and is highly esteemed by her collegues and peers.

Fitness Instructors/Gyms

Wendy “Fit”

She’s owns a Yoga Studio just about a mile East of my location. The physical address is 13974 West Hillsborough Ave. Tampa, FL 33635. She has a large following and is great at helping to “Clear the mind, strengthen the body and balance the soul. Her studio has certified yoga teachers to help with body awareness, how your mind and body work together and how to deal with stress along with other self destructive symptoms.”

Looking for a gym? Want a place with multiple locations, unlimited hours, and knowledgeable staff? Check out SNAP fitness. The location at Racetrack Road is owned by a friend and colleague of mine named Gregg Miller. As an added bonus they have $10 B-12 shots for their members every Saturday mornings.

Ever heard of Pilates? It’s pretty cool, and not all that easy. Still, it’s very effective. If you want to give it a try check out Gina Cintia’s place in WestChase. She personally had this type of exercise regimen change her life following a car accident and the associated herniated discs in her back and neck. She is dedicated, knowledgeable, and not too far from my office. It’s called Pilates Euphoria, and the website is listed below.

There is a place right here in Oldsmar that trains pro athletes on a regular basis. For that reason, it’s not that easy to find. It’s hidden back off of Forest Lakes Road, but the place is amazing. The owner’s name is Jason Waz, and I recently began working out there. I consider myself an athlete, but this is the first place since high school wrestling that I actually had to stop during the routine to find a restroom…

These guys are good. It’s not just about training; it’s about injury rehab as well. If you are serious about sports, this is the place for you.

Health Food/Organic Food

Palm Harbor Natural Foods, also known as NRG Market

Supplements, organic food, herbs, essential oils, and they host no-cost lectures on a weekly basis. All stores offer gluten free and vegan food options, a selection of locally produced products, as well as extensive personal care and supplement departments staffed by knowledgeable associates. If you go there and see that I am hosting one of the health workshops in the near future, show up. Seriously. I feel like an idiot when there are only like two people at these and I set up a whole power point presentation…I have jokes and everything. Seriously.

Natures Food Patch

North Pinellas County's largest array of organic produce, bulk foods, groceries, meat & seafood, specialty wines & beers, cheeses & olives, herbs, vitamins, pet supplies, unique housewares & natural bodycare.

Dr. Marie Perkins, DOM

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, Auricular Acupuncture, Electro Acupuncture, and Cosmetic Acupuncture. Her website is packed and my little paragraph here wouldn’t do it justice. Check it out below.

Birth Centers

This one is sort of a big deal for me. Both of my boys were born using a midwife. Yes, they were born at home. At first I joked with my wife about it; I told her that she better give birth on the pool deck because I didn’t want that mess in the house.

My wife is a Registered Nurse who worked in the O.B. unit in a hospital in Illinois for about 4 years and she was the one to tell me that there was no way she was going to have her second child at the hospital. At first I thought she was nuts, but after looking into it, it was one of the best decisions I have made. There is a movie out there called “The Business of Being Born” and it really is eye-opening. Want to see a preview? Check it out.

The birth center where we chose to have my sons Logan and Ethan was the Labor of Love in Dunedin. I have to say it was an all around positive experience. We felt safe, comfortable, and welcome. They did perform all of the pre-natal screenings I expected, and we went into the birthing process knowing that we had a very low likelihood of any complications. And no, we didn’t use the pool deck…I decided the bedroom was OK.

As far as the “Business” of being born, I did this math afterwards:

Co-pay + Monthly Premium over 9 months = $8,550 for a hospital birth...if there are NO complications. (I have what is considered to be “good” insurance)

Out of Pocket expense (what I paid as insurance didn’t cover any it) for all prenatal screenings, birth, and postnatal screenings at Labor of Love = $3,900
